Automation, moving faders, effects ( also known as fx )

The fx return faders are motorized and touch sensitive just like all the
others so it's easy to do a fade. Basically, you're going to be doing
an automation run on just the fx returns. Before you proceed, save
your initial settings (the way you want the mixer to be setup when the
song starts) to scene "00". This scene will be recalled whenever
you open the project and will also be the starting point where all
automation runs begin. To save, press scene save, scroll to 00 and
follow the prompts to complete the save.

Once you have the specific effect setup you want, go to the "group/fx"
fader bank. Faders 9-12 will now work the return levels (how much of
the effect is< coming "back" into the mix at the L/R master outs, or how
much you hear). Turn automation on (automate button), record events - all,
fader motors on and select a record mode. For now select "overwrite".
Now, all the channel's "select" buttons will be flashing, indicating
that any of them are ready to be automated. Press the select button for the fx
channel that you wish to automate so it glows steadily, indicating it will now
record automation. Start the transport rolling and at the desired point, just
grab the fader and make your fadeout and press "stop" when done.

The select buttons will now resume flashing indicating that they all
dropped out of automate when the transport stopped. That's all there
is to it!, and it's basically all there is to any dynamic automation
on the dps. There are some things to consider though.
Now, when you replay the song from the beginning, everything will work
up until the point where you faded the fx out, but you have to get them
back to their "in" position before the next point in the song where
you want to hear them. You could do another automation run fading them
back in, or save another scene where the fx are up, because they'll be down
from the prvious pass. Also, keep in mind that all the faders are touch-sensitive
and they become active just by touching them. So, any movement you make
while in automation mode will be recorded. Avoid using the "nudge-with-
your-fingernail" technique as the touch sensitive nature of the faders
works off of skin conductivity (hence the shiny metal color of thefader knobs).

Another point about automation:
In OVERWRITE Record mode, automation recording starts as soon as you
enable the SELECT key (solid light) of the channel that you want to automate
and stops when you disable the SELECT key (flashing) or stop the transport.

To start automation recording by touching the fader (or turning a Q-Pot), you
should select AUTO DROP Record mode. In this mode, automation stops
recording when you release the fader or stop the transport.

The Dropout Mode parameter is also important regarding what happens when
automation recording stops. The options are:
* STOP: automation stops recording and automation data after that point is unchanged.
* RETURN: automation returns to the previous level with a fade (set in Return time)
* TO END: the automation data after that point is overwritten (erased)

In addition to the FX Returns, you can automate the FX/AUX sends: the master
sends using the faders in the User Bank, and the individual channel sends
using the Q-Pots in Q-strip or Q-Channel mode. This is useful when you want
to automate a change of reverb level on a single instrument, without affecting
the reverb on the others using the same FX.

Re: deleting automation.:

1) In the Edit mode, "highlight" the entire track you want to remove auto on.

2) Select "Cut" - with automation data "on."

3) Paste with automation data "off."

You're finished!

Deleting a scene:

If you use static automation, and wanted to delete a scene, you can
overwrite it with either the previous or subsequent scene, so it would
become "invisible". In other words, recall the previous scene,
and store it on the one you want to get rid of. Or, make adjustments to
the scene and re-store it as is. Same for the Locator Memories.
