Disc Maintenance:
To all new users, regular disc maintenance is very important.
The disc cleanup function may be used after every session you record something.
This will not get rid of any useable audio or v tracks. It will get rid of audio that
resides on the hard drve that can no longer be accessed and free up drive space
(as well as it may lessen the fragmentation of any subsequent data since data
can be written to the spaces that were occupied by the cleaned data).
It is important to reformat the hard drive on a regular basis.
It's probably safe to do this once a month or even less (depending on useage),
but be warned that this will erase the drive so you need to backup and verify
any critical data beforehand. This process takes about 3 1/2 hours with the
standard 60 gig hard drive and will not affect the OS so it's not necessary to
reload the OS afterwards. You just restore any projects you were working on
and then start working again. Some users do formatting when a project is finished
to avoid having to do the extra backup. Maybe this will work for you also.
This is very important for the stability of the machine.
A neat trick to allow you could force a project to be rewritten into a contiguous file
without having to go through a backup-reformat-restore sequence is:
Simply mark off the entire project with the IN/OUT markers then go to the
DSP screen and select VARISPEED, only set the adjustment amount to 100%.
When you process it this way, you end up with an identical project, but now it's all in
one file.
