Mastering Multi-track To The CD-RW
The standard way to burn a CD is in a stereo format.
This is the only way it can be played in a conventional CD player.
A normal procedure for mastering to CD is as follows:
Mixdown your 24-trk project to stereo using the onboard FX
- this will create a 2-trk "mixdown" project.
Open the mixdown project, and tweak it (adding EQ and or FX to the entire mix).
Mixdown that project into another "mixdown" project.
Open this new mixdown project and enable the MBCX, then adjust to taste,
and mix that project down into your final stereo master - and burn it to CD.
You can burn ANY 2-trk mix to CD, but if you want to use the MBCX,
you must first mixdown to 2-trks with FX "embedded" in the tracks.
Why...? The MBCX in the deeps is so powerful, it has to "replace" all four of
the onboard effects when it runs, so you would either be able to run "FX"
or "MBCX" - but not both!
The answer is to mixdown with FX - imbedding them into the 2-ch mixdown
tracks, then re-record using the MBCX.
If you think this is a lot of work...be glad you never had to do it with tape!
Yeah, normally we mixdown 24-trks to a stereo master (adding EQ/compression),
then run the 2-trk through processors about 4-5 times to get "the sound" and
finally
burn it all to a master! Makes for a LOT of tape head cleaning!!!
The DPS24 makes the whole process much easier! You can burn just your first 2-trk
(or any 2-trk mix for that matter), to CD - but I doubt you would be able
to get the levels and "punch" you'll want from it.
"Backup" CD's contain the project in it's raw (multi-track) form, and hence are
only
readable in a DPS24 machine.
